SUstainable Development for the benefit of All
Our group of local non-profits and social enterprises have been working for almost ten years to preserve this exceptionally valuable terrestrial and marine environment, which has both national and international significance. While we are focused on conservation, we are also sensitive to the importance of job creation, Bahamian entrepreneurial growth and sustainable financial opportunities for the people of South Eleuthera and The Bahamas.
We have therefore proposed an alternative development model which will provide long-term jobs and economic benefits for the country while maintaining the delicate ecological balance in the area and preserving the associated cultural and environmental assets for future generations. This model includes conservation through the development of a national park with public access and visitor amenities, job creation through ecotourism and educational and research facilities that encourage and support both local and international research and awareness..
There is no doubt that Lighthouse Point provides an opportunity to strengthen the brand identity of The Bahamas as a model for sustainable, environmentally sensitive development with unspoiled local attractions. The development of Lighthouse Point as a national park will add much needed diversity to the tourism experience and enhance the life experience of all who experience its magic.
